Sarah Virginia Creek is the daughter of Jacob Creek (or Crick) and Barbara Dreary. Sarah "Creek" married Jacob Dice, on the 8th Aug 1829 at New Providence Church by Rev. James Morrison and had 11 children. Her marriage record says Creek.

Sadly, she would lose her husband to Ersypelas (an acute bacterial infection) on 28 Mar 1860. Then, two weeks later, the war between the states had begun. Then a widow, she would lose sons, Jacob and Eli, only 8 days apart, on the 3rd and the 11th, of October, 1860, from diphtheria. She reported all 3 of their deaths. What a horrible, horrible year (Rockbridge County Death Register).

In Sep 1860, William and M E Dice would lose their 21 day old son, David H to Diptheria. I believe this was Sarah's grandson. In Sep 1862, they would lose 2 month old daughter, Alice E Dice, to heart disease.

SZ says her father's surname was actually "Crick," though I find that she used "Creek." To complicate matters, they pronounced the word creek, like crick, and many there, do today. Her mother's gravestone clearly says Creek.

The Dice Family Genealogy & History site at members.fortunecity.com/cmdice/dicegen.html says her full name is Sarah V. Creek and she was born 8 Mar 1813, died 25 Mar 1876. Multiple other sites use the surname "Creek" for Sarah.

SW shares, "After they immigrated to Pennsylvania, Kruck was Americanized to Krick. While in Pennsylvania, the family stuck with the Krick spelling. Frantz Kruck/Krick's son was Francis Krick, Jr. (1736-1814). Francis Krick's son was Jacob Krick. When Jacob (1760-1824) moved from Pennsylvania to Virginia, he changed his name from Krick to Crick. I am a descendant of Jacob and Barbara Crick's son, John C. Crick. I have an 1822 note from Jacob (1760-1824) to his landlord and he signed his name "Jacob Crick". In all the letters I've received from descendants, ALL have linked back to Frantz Kruck, Francis Krick and Jacob Crick.

The wife of Jacob Dice, aged 63 yrs. In 1998, her gravestone had fallen face down, lying flat on the ground. Source of burial: Rockbridge County, Virginia Cemeteries, South River and Walker Creek Districts, by the Rockbridge Area Genealogical Society, 1999, page 148.
