Facts and Events
Samuel Singleton was baptised on 21st May 1820 at Foston in Lincolnshire, son of Elizabeth Singleton, formerly Ingram, and her husband William Singleton, a huckster. When Samuel was about eight years old, his father died.
By 1841 Samuel was working as a labourer at Potter Hanworth, nearly 25 miles north-east of Foston. He was killed in an accident there on 13th April 1841, aged 20. Having unloaded a cartload of manure, the horses started off suddenly. He managed to get hold of the reins and tried to run with the horses, but was dragged for over fifty yards before falling under the cart. He was taken back to the house but died of his injuries later that day. He was buried two days later back in his native village of Foston. His mother survived him.

CORONER'S INQUESTS.-On Wednesday week, Mr. Hitchins held an inquest on the body of Samuel Singleton, a labourer in the employ of Mr. Briggs, of Potter Hanworth. The deceased on Tuesday last was leading manure down a lane, and had unladen the cart, when all at once the horses started off: he got hold of the reins, and ran with the horses, but after being dragged above fifty yards, he fell, and the cart went over him. He was immediately conveyed home, where he died in the course of the day.
