WILL OF SAMUEL McCLURE
In the name of God Amen I Samuel McClure of Rockbridge County being Advanced in years and Infirm in Body (tho of Perfect and Sound Memory) and Calling to mind my Mortality do make and appoint this my last Will and Testament ---
My soul I Resign to God who gave it. Hoping for Mercy through the Mercy of Jesus Christ Ð And my Body I give the Grave to be buried at the Discretion of My Executors --- My worldly Estate I dispose of in he following Manner VIZ:
I order and Require that all my Just Debts be paid out of my Estate --- I give and Bequeath unto my well Beloved Wife Mary one third of all my Movable Estate and her living in the Mansion House during her Natural life Together with her Bed and Bead Cloaths, and necessary Houshold furniture, Also a Sorrel Mare Branded "M" on the Buttock.
I give and Bequeath to my son Samuel the plantation whereon I live containing about 184 acres to him and his heirs and assigns forever upon his paying to my son Alexander the sum of Two Hundred Pounds Lawfull Money when the said Alexander shall be at the age of Twenty One Years or as soon after as he conveniently can paying Lawful Interest from that time --- Provided that if my said son Saml. Shall die without Marrying the Land shall descend to my son Alexander and to his Heirs and assigns forever Provided also that if Alexander shall die before he marries or comes to the age mentioned above the above obligation on Samuel shall be Void.
I give and Bequeath to my son Samuel _____ horse Coalt which he now Claims, also a plow and Tacklings to be his Entire property.
I give and Bequeath to my son Alexander a Dark bay horse Coalt claimed by him Also a plow and Tacklings to be his Entire property
I give and bequeath to each of my Daughters Elizabeth and Anne a horse and their Saddle _______ for each of them to be reserved out of my Stock or purchased by my Estate at the Discretion of my Executors together with a Bed and bed Cloaths to each of them and also the chests which are now claimed by them --- I do Require that one work horse be Reserved for the use of the plantation to remain on it while my wife lives. And afterwards to be Disposed of in the same manner with the Rest of my Movable estate --- I do require that my Servant Man named George Drummand (?) do Remain on the plantation for the use thereof, and if he behaves in a becoming Manner and as a faithful Servant (which shall be Judged of by my Executors) he shall be Entitled to his conviction bill at the Beginning of the last Year of his Servitude otherwise he shall continue in Servitude during the term mentioned in the said Bill.
I give and bequeath to my son William McClure my Daughters Agness Campbell Hannah McClure Mary Ratliff and Jean Elliot each the sum of Twenty Shillings --- \all the Remainder of my movable Estate I do order to be sold and equally divided amongst my children Samuel Elizabeth --- Anne and Alexander.
I do constitute and appoint my wife Mary McClure my son Wm. McClure my son Samuel McClure and John Trimble or any three of them to be the sole Executors of this my last Will and Testatment. Witness my hand and seal this 13th day of March 1779.

I do hereby order and Require that it shall be in the power of my Executors Mary McClure, Wm. McClure and John Trimble or any two of them, if they shall Judge at the time my son Alexander comes to age that the part left to him is not equivalent or equal to that left to my son Samuel to order or compel Samuel to pay him the said Alexander an additional sum so that the whole exceed not five hundred pounds and a reasonable time be allowed him to pay he additional sum. And I do order that this clause be considered as a part of my will in the same manner as if it had been inserted in above.

This last will and Testament (with the Codicil Annexed) of Samuel McClure Deceased was presented in Court by Mary McClure William McClure and Samuel McClure the Executors therein named and proved by the oaths of John McClure, Robert Erwin and Hannah Porter, the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Executors who made oath according to Law Certificate is granted them for obtaining probate thereof in _____ form giving Sureties whereupon they together with William Ramsey & Joseph Walker and John Porter their Sureties ____________ and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of Eight Thousand pounds with conditions required by Law.
