Rubin Sanford was mentioned in the will of his grandfather, Richard Durrett (1705-1784), as follows.

Item. I give my grandson Rubin Sanford all my corn and fadder and provisions of every kind I have on the plantation when I die I give it to my grandson Rubin Sanford and he shall keep the Negroes and tools to finish the crop he my said grandson cloathing (sic) my Negroes and paying their taxes if I should die shortly what crop my taxes and cloating (sic) my Negroes and paying my debts.
