Will Abstract

Robert King, Jr. - Will dated August 12, 1689 and proved April 7, 1690 in Stafford Co., Virginia. The inventory of his estate was recorded August 3, 1690. His widow Mary King was granted letters of testamentary on his estate with Richard Ayliffe and John Brewton (or Brereton as sometimes spelled) on her bond as her securities. William Head, John Brereton, Richard Ayliffe, Elizabeth Brereton and William Smith were witnesses. (Stafford County, Virginia Court Order Book, Part 2, page # 42 dated 1690).

    Dated 12 Aug. 1689. The will of Robert Kinge, of Stafford co., Virginia, “being sick & weake of Body”, bequeaths to wife Mary Kinge (sole executrix), eldest son George Kinge, next eldest son Robert Kinge, sons Joseph Kinge and Benjamin Kinge, daughters Sarah Kinge, Hannah Kinge, and Anne Hole (and her daughter Hannah Hole), friends John Brewton and Richard Ayliff, and also William Bowlinge, John Bowlinge, and Robert Bowlinge. Witnessed by William (X) Head, John Brewton, William Smith, Eliza (X) Brewton, Jonah (X) Denton, Richard (X) Ayliffe. Proved 7 April 1690. Inventory appraised at 9580, on 26 May 1690, by Richard Ayliff, Richard Wall, William Head, and John Brewton, returned to court 12 June 1690.

    On pp 49–50; recorded pp 87–88, # 477, on 23 Oct. 1667:

    “Whereas sufficient notice hath ben given to ye Inhabitants of this County to bring in a list of Tithables of their Families to the respective Justices and forasmuch as ... ROBERT KING ... did neglect to bring in their lists as aforesaid” the Court does hereby order them to pay fifty pounds of tobacco with charges.

    On p 52; recorded p 93, # 498, on 11 Dec. 1667:

    “Whereas ROBT. KING hath made sufficient proofe of the transportation of five persons into this Colony certification is therefore granted to the said King for 205 acres of land: WILLIAM KING, ELIZA. KING, JOHN NIBBS, EDWD. MILLS, ROBT. JONES.”

    On p 80; recorded pp 42–43, # 688, on 7 April 1690:

    “Probat of the Last Will & Testament of ROBERT KING late of this county deced is grated to MARY the wife of the aforesaid Robert King ...”, witnessed by William Head, John Brewton, Richard Ayliff, Eliza. Brewton, and William Smith. Richard Ayliff and John Brewton appeared in court and gave bond. Ordered that any three of John Brewton, Richard Ayliff, William Head, and Richard Wall shall appraise the estate.
