Facts and Events
On Bob's work as an ejector seat trainer LRJ Judkins RAF Service Record showing Ejector Seat Trainer role, and Servicing Meteor aircraft (RAF Leconfield) for 2 years. He told me (his son John) that he had the privilege of meeting Martin Baker (inventor of the Ejector seat) who was quite an old man by that time. Bob took the ejector seat rig on a low-loader truck across to Germany, and trained RAF pilots stationed in Germany. He tried to avoid sitting in the ejector seat himself, as the early versions could damage the spine with the force of the explosive charge, but he did occasionally have to give such live demonstrations! On his work as a translator with the Military Police Bob Judkins was verified to me (John Judkins) as speaking totally fluent German with a Hanover accent by Herr Ehler Menz of Fichtel & Sachs (from Hamburg) in the late 19 80's. Ehler was visiting my office in Hyster, in Irvine, Scotland, when I introduced dad to him (he was on a brief visit) and the two chatted in German for up to 30 minutes. Image Gallery
