Richard Donovan

Richard Donovan, 78, of 642 University, died at 3:32 pm Friday at Mercy Hospital.

Friends may call after 7 pm Saturday at the Hoffmann Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 9 am Monday at St. Raphael's Cathedral, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.V. Casey, the pastor offering the Requiem High Mass. Burial will be Mount Olivet Cemetery.

He was born at Garryowen, Jackson County, Ia., son of Maurice and Mary Ellen Shanahan, and resided in Dubuque for the past 20 years. He married the former Blanche Johnson in 1924.

He farmed until 26 years ago. He was employed for a number of years at General Dry Battery Co. until he retired.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Madonna) Brenke, Mrs. Norbert (Lois) Houselog, both of Dubuque; three sons, Cornelius L. (Neal), Bernard, Ia., Francis J., Dubuque, and Gerald W. Donovan, Rockdale, Ia.; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Rose Barrett, Dubuque; three brothers, Martin Donovan, Lansing, Mich., John Donovan, Lansing, Mich., and Cornelius Donovan, San Francisco, Calif.

A parish Rosary will be recited at 8 pm Sunday at the mortuary.
