"Burt's History of Springfield (2:535-6) identifies Remembrance as daughter of William and Mary (Burt) Brooks." Cites Hampshire deed D:200 James Brown and wife Rememberance of Colchester to estimate time of removal there, Hampshire deed C:156, dated 3 Mar 1712/13, acknowledged "12 May 1713 in Hatfield", "the last record seen of Remembrance".
↑ Jacobus has cited several secondary sources in his coverage of this family, notably as his basis for attributing Remembrance to William and Mary Brooks. Neither Burt, nor Sheldon provide any justification for it in their coverage of this family. It is not clear what the basis for this is, though repeated almost universally by secondary sources. The fact is, Remembrance really does not fit into this family, the parents marrying in 1654, having children 10 months later (William) , then 19 months after that (John), and then 15 months after that (Sarah), leaving no time for an additional child old enough to marry in Feb 1674/75. William was an older man, little seems known of him prior to his marriage, though reportedly "came from London to Va., 1635" (Sheldon, similar in Burt), and it seems very probable that Remembrance might be a child of an earlier marriage, if she is his daughter.
