patience Brooks daughter of william Brooks Borne the 5th of the 4 mon: 1661. [Note: In old-styles dates, the fourth month is June. More info may be found here.] [Hampshire County Record on Vol. 2, p. 1665.]
↑NEHGR, "William Brooks of Springfield, Mass., and Some of His Decendants" by Joel Nelson Eno, Vol. 72, p. 142, says Patience "m. soon after 8 Aug 1680 Thomas Taylor of Springfield". Possibly this is simply based on an unjustified assertion in Sheldon, Vol. 2, p. 90. The basis for this oft-repeated statement is not known and no record has yet been located to show which Thomas Taylor this is {several listed in Sheldon but none with wife named Patience, no record of marriage or children born to such a couple), or at what point the marriage occurred ("soon after" birth of a stillborn child "out of wedlock" seems unlikely - what dated record prompted that description?) (Note: there is a deed cited the page on Patience's brother Jonathan Brooks of East Hampton, Suffolk, NY, in 1707, which includes a witness named Thomas Taylor. Thomas Taylor would be a common name, so this could easily be coincidence.)
