EDEN Payton Edward Jeffries, 91, died Thursday morning, Dec. 9, 2004, at Morehead Nursing Center. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery. Mr. Jeffries was born Dec. 18, 1912 in Rockingham County, to the late John Henry and Lily Belle Murphy Jeffries. He was a member of First Church of the Brethren and was active in his community. Mr. Jeffries was a member of the Y's Men Club for many years, a member of the El Bethel Ruritan Club and was voted Outstanding Member of the El Bethel Community Club. He retired from Fieldcrest Mills after 50 years of service. Surviving is his wife of over 71 years, Madge Bowman Jeffries of Eden; son Douglas Jeffries of Fla.; daughter Mrs. Jackie (Lillie Mae) Merriman of Spencer, Va.; brothers, Curtis Jeffries and Oliver Jeffries both of Eden; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Jeffries Jones, six brothers, three sisters and three grandchildren.
