Madge Bowman Jeffries, 96, of 302 S. Kennedy Street, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, January 19 at First Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.

Mrs. Jeffries was born March 31, 1911 to the late Carter Frank and Hattie Mae Elliott Bowman. She was a member of First Church of the Brethren since 1938 and was a homemaker.

Surviving is daughter, Lillie Mae Merriman and husband, Jackie of Spencer, VA; son, Douglas Jeffries and wife, JoAnn of Pensacola, FL; daughter-in-law, Barbara Jeffries of Arlington, TX; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Payton Jeffries; six sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren, Dwight Jeffries and Casey Merriman.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff and residents of Arbor Ridge and the third floor staff at Morehead Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, from 12:30 to 2 PM at First Church of the Brethren.
