Her husband Garret was baptized in Raritan, Somerset, New Jersey around 1729. They married, presumably also in Somerset County, likely in Bernards township, around 1753 and likely lived in the area until 1765 when her father-in-law purchased 150 acre farms for each of his sons in Smith's Clove (now Monroe), Orange, New York.

The traditional identification of Patience with Patience Griswold of Connecticut, appears, in the absence of evidence, highly unlikely and probably springs from a long-standing sequence of errors.
