On 4 Jan 1765 the children of Garret and Patience Miller, except for the eldest son, were baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, New Jersey: Mary, Elizabeth, Garret, Absalom, Phebe, and Sarah. Absalom and Phebe are not included in the 1778 will probate and the order provided at that time implies Nathan is older than Sarah (but he is not listed as baptized at Morristown). Garret's father purchased 650 acres from William Alexander, putative Lord Stirling, in Monroe, Orange, New York, in 1765 and established farms for each of his sons and some acres for one daughter, Sarah who was probably already married to James Lewis. Garret and Patience are listed on First Presbyterian Church, Morristown, records as "moved away", presumably having taken up 150 acres of land in Smith's Clove (Monroe) later in 1765.

Elizabeth, Samuel and Hampton went to Canada (but Hampton returned to the US about 1802). DAR lineages run through Garrett Jr. and Mary. However, recent mtDNA research may call into question the Mary lineage and effectively prove that Ann/Nancy went to Canada as well while Mary ended up close to her sisters as the wife of William Garrison (see Patience talk page). Sarah may be the Sallie Miller married to John Burgess who was a patriot (needs to be proved, dates align only Virginia-Ohio geography needs to be explained, check John Burgess' troop movements, he may have met Sarah while encamped) and therefore DAR claims truncate at that generation and do not go to Garret.
