My initial goal on joining WeRelate in summer 2013 was to add all my 4th-6th great grandparents and known descendants to support researching cousin matches on 23andme, as well as to share photos and stories inherited from previous genealogists in the family. I've had success meeting cousins here and find the site to have tremendous potential as a research support tool in ways that other sites do not offer. I see WeRelate as the wikipedia of family history -- both as an encyclopedia of biographical detail about people and families and as a reference encyclopedia for the family history research field.
Recent experience has taught me that success in family history requires having highly detailed and comprehensive geographic reference material and I am undertaking projects here to support that, particularly on places in Ontario (Canada), Irish townlands and settlements in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire (Austria-Hungary).
I have twenty years experience in family history research and a graduate degree in library science (archives). My tree currently holds about 4000 people and my ancestors are from North America, across Europe, and, as indicated by genetics, Russia and East Asia.
