I, Ozias Pitkin of Hartford, do make this my last will and testament: I give unto my wife Esther Pitkin and to my daughter Ruth Pitkin, in equal parts, all my moveable goods within my house that are provided for and proper for housekeeping, and also £50 old tenor in part of what is due from Caleb Bull by note. The 1-2 of the household and of the £50 above mentioned to be set out by my sd. wife to my daughter Ruth when she shall come to the age of 18 years. Furthermore, I give unto my wife my two oldest cows, the half of 2 steers, black heifer, two calves, 10 sheep, the cart, horse, saddle and bridle, 1-2 of the cart plow, and all team tackling, and so much hay as shall be sufficient to keep sd. stock through the winter now approaching, and the large Bible. I give unto my sd. wife the use of the south end of my dwelling, from the bottom to the top, and the use of the stairs to go up, and the use of half the cellar, and use of the oven as she shall have occasion, and the use of the well and of half the new barn and cow house, and the use of 1-3 part of all my improvable land during her natural life, and the liberty of cutting necessary firewood and timber on any part of my woodland during her natural life. I give to my wife the use of all the land given to my three youngest sons, Isaac, Daniel and James, until they shall be put apprentices or shall attain the age of 21 years respectively. Also, I give unto my wife and my daughter Ruth equally all the rent due to me from my estate in which I am interested on the west side of the Great River, and what is due to me for the rebuilding of a warehouse on that side of the river. I give unto my wife two pare of stilyards and a pare of wool cards. And being desirous that my son Ozias Pitkin and my wife and four youngest children may keep together in a family state, I commit to the care of my wife, to be improved in housekeeping, all the following particulars: All my English and Indian corne, barley and malt, flax and wool, woolen and linen cloth and yarn, cider and barrels, beef, pork and tallow, all sorts of tubs, and butter and cheese, and all eatables within doors, all hides and leather for shoose, with salt, and all my swine, with the forks and rakes and axes. And I leave with her all my wearing apparrel which I have not given to my two eldest sons, to be improved for my three youngest sons. And my house, especially the kitchen, being much decayed, I leave it to be sold by my sd. wife and my son Ozias. One heifer and all my sheep which I have not particularly given in this my will to be improved in bringing my shop over the cellar now covered with the kitchen, and conforming the cellar wall to it in finishing sd. shop within, and making a convenient way out of the east side of the south part of my house into sd. cellar, etc. And £10 more to be paid by my executors in old tenor out of my money if the former sum be not sufficient. I give to my son Samuel Pitkin several parcels of land (adjoining proprietors being Disborow Spencer, John Pitkin, Jonathan Pitkin, Nehemiah Olmsted, Benjamin Roberts and Joseph Case). I give to my son Ozias Pitkin, besides what I have given him by deed, the 1-2 of my homestead besides what I have given to my son Samuel. I give unto my daughters, Abigail Bidwell, Elizabeth Olmsted, Mary Pratt and Hannah Olmsted, each of them £10 bills of credit, to be old tenor. And whereas my daughter Martha Eels hath not had so much of my estate as my other daughters, I give unto her my youngest cow and 10 sheep, and also £10 in bills of credit of old tenor. I give unto my daughter Ruth my white-faced cow and 5 sheep besides what I have given her before, and hay to keep them through the coming winter. I give all my books of divinity to be equally divided between my wife and all my children. I appoint my son Samuel Pitkin executor and my wife Esther Pitkin executrix.
