According to various sources, Michael married Eleanor 'Nellie' Vansickle (1795-1842) and had children William H. 1815-1905; Adah 1817-1844 m. Alfred Clanin; John 1818-1895; Mary Ann 1820-1844 m. Orville France; Jane 1822-1889 IL m. Joseph Miller; Andrew Jackson 1825-1894; and Moses 1828. He married Susannah Gore (1819-1846) in 1844 and had daughter Martha Ellen 1845-1933 m. Wm. Patterson & Eli J. Paul; then married her sister Sarah Gore (1821-1911) in 1847 and had daughters Minerva 1849-1854, Melissa 1851-1921 m. Wm. Butler, Susannah 1853-1938 m. Thomas Jefferson Horton, Judith 1855-1956 m. Dallas Hamm, Sarah Elizabeth 1857, and Emaniale 1866.  "Michael Stoops, a native of Penn. and a farmer, early settled in Ohio and in his 17th year married Eleanor Van Sickle.  They had nine children, the eldest of whom was [William]... born Jan 1815 in Hamilton Co., O. Mr. Michael Stoops in 1836 came to Fulton County. In early days Mr. Stoops suffered the extreme privations of frontier life. The first two winters the bill of fare for the family was hominy and venison; the wife's dress was linsey-woolsey; the man's, buckskin. They had to get their groceries in Lewistown on credit and that was very difficult.  In the 1860 census for Pleasant, Fulton Co., Illinois, Michael is 62, farmer from Pennsylvania; Sarah is 49 from (NY?); [by Susannah] Martha E. 15 Illinois; [by Sarah] Melissa 9 IL; Susannah 7 IL; Judith 5 IL; and Sarah E. 3 IL. Keziah A. (Vanworden?) is 14 and William Patterson is 21. {p. 180} His sons William and Andrew are in Fulton township.
 In the 1870 census for Pleasant, Fulton Co., Illinois, Michael Stoops is 74 from Pennsylvania, farmer; Sarah is 50 PA; Susanna 17; Judith 14; Sarah E. 13; Martha Patterson is 24 with Cyrus 4 and Minerva 2; Michael (Classin?) is 23, laborer. {p. 38}.
 In the 1880 census, his widow Sarah is living with her daughter Judith Hamm and family.
