According to a WorldConnect database, James emigrated to Preble Co. about 1818, later back to Kentucky, then to Ripley Co. Indiana in 1848.
According to 'Descendants of William Shankland', Mary and James had 9 children: Samuel 1815; Eliza R. m. Jesse Melerdner; John S. 1818-1875 m. I believe Sarah 1820-1896 and Hester B. 1826-1883 married brothers Joseph K. Delap and James Delap and stayed in Ripley Co.

In the 1840 census for Nicholas Co., Kentucky, James D.
