BAKER MATTIE R 01/11/1876 F MISSOURI SAN BENITO 05/15/1962 86 yrs

[I haven't found Mattie's family. Dopp, Doppe or ? is not common in Missouri, but they seemed to skip town in census years. In fact, "my" Dopps were in Kansas one year. On www.godfrey.org <http://www.godfrey.org/> I found two Dopp children born. In 1887 July 7th, an unnamed girl was born to Alice Dopp and G.W. Montgomery. That's Lee's grandmother and grandfather, and an aunt is the child. So far, unidentified. The second Dopp birth record was for a boy named Bismark H. Dopp, born 1886 Oct 4, in Rockport, Atchison Co. MO. Parents Mary A. B. Dopp (nee Burnett) and John D. Dopp. She was born in Wisconsin, he in Illinois. Ages 46 (ouch!) and 42. In connection? with that - I found a Rentfrow family in San Benito: in 1900 Census: M. Grant Rentfrow, 32, b. MO (parents Scotland & TN), daughter Christina, 34 b. MO, Troy b. 1892 in Colorado, and daughter Verdis M. b. 1893 in California. AND M. Grant's sister was living with them: her name was Burnetta (related to Mary Burnett Dopp?) In California there was John Dopp, 1871-1948, b. Missouri, d. San Benito Co. I forget - do you have the Rentfrows of Greene, Hickory Co.? I've got them from the 1880 Census. In the 1880 Census for MO there is only a Peter Dopp in Saline, b. NY, 30 years old, wife Susan, one child, Effie, 2 years old b. MO. There is also, in 1900 Census in MO there's a William Dopp b. 1867 in Elkhorn, Macdonald County. Lee says he remembers his mother mentioning Macdonald County, he thinks. Not the sort of thing one would make up, seems to me, but his Doppe grandmother was born in Dallas Co. They were: John Doppe, 42, Mary, 40, children Nannie, Alice, John, Ransom, Savilla and Laura. Interestingly, perhaps, a few farms up the road was a Montgomery family (no GW apparently) and Alice married a G.W. Montgomery. In 1880 there were several Dopps in St. Louis, from Germany, including two Mattie Dopps, aged 26 and 27. Now you know just about as much as I do, so far. I've only got the Census record access through tomorrow, if Heritagequest makes good on its threat to pull it from my subscription, so I"m working on this a lot right now. My own family is pretty well set back to 5 "greats" in one line and back to 3 "greats" most elsewhere. Beyond that and my family's eyes glaze over. In fact, I'm lucky to get that far. And I find that I have trouble maintaining the interest of 3rd cousins, never mind 4ths. I am pleased, though, that my second cousin and I have become friends through this, and her son and one of my daughters seem to have enjoyed interests in common. Last thing - Lee says that Aunt Mackie went to AZ in the 30s. Any opinion as to timeframe? Pat ]

[So tonite I went trolling in Heritagequest for the next-to-last time, I suppose, it being shut off to me when the year finishes. I found more for Lee on the side that doesn't relate to you. I also found the important information that little Bismark H. Dopp was actually a Dopf. But I also zeroed in on the family of Peter L. Dopp b. 1846 in NY, and his wie Susan Dopp nee Lomax b. 1856 in MO. They lived in Saline MO in 1880 and just had their first child, Effie b. 1878. In 1890 there's a birth record for their sixth child, Ira Franklin Dopp, born at Blue Springs, Jackson Co. MO. In 1900 they're in Silver Creek, Indiana - I forgot to write that down - but it came up just searching for Peter Dopp. It showed that they'd had 7 children, 4 living, but there are only 3 living with them in 1900: Jessie, b. 1882 MO, Frank (the sixth child) and Eliza b. 1892, the seventh. So just now there's no knowing what's between, but there's room for a Mattie. I don't see a lot of Matties though (I've been using up my eyesight browsing tonite), and there were those Matties with the germans. I think a lot of people who have German backgrounds change that information. After all, no one asked for papers. Bedtime - you're probably just starting up about now!]
