Private funeral services for Mrs. Eva J. Thorp, 78 year old, who died suddenly Sunday at her home [September 18, 1932], 16043 Seaview Ave., were scheduled for this afternoon at the Mayfield parlors.
Mrs. Thorp, who came to Seattle in 1873, was one of the first teachers in the city's public school system. As Miss Eva Yocom, she was one of the five teachers in the old Central School at that time. Leaving Seattle after several years, she went to Ellensburg where she married Frank S. Thorp, a pioneer attorney in Washington Territory.
Mrs. Thorp is survived by her husband; three children, Mrs. Lewis Williams, Paul Thorp, and Burns Y. Thorp of Seattle; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Addie Thomas, Oakland, Cal., and Mrs. Lois Cooke, Wenatchee; and two brothers, Alva Yocom, Ellensburg and Burns Yocom, Wenatchee.
