Mary was Abraham Sr.'s first wife. Their first child was born when Mary was 15 years old, and Abraham age 22. She died at age 44, leaving 9 children aged 9 to 29.

Oakdale Cemetery on Flintstone Creek, 2 miles over the Pennsylvania line: there is a Mary Ash buried here. Could this be Abraham, Sr.'s first wife? Amos, David, and a younger Abraham are buried here. (Letter from Curtis Mallow, whose uncle Alvin Mallow was married to Lula Ash, dated May 13, 1977).

Family Bible of Helen Burden lists birth date as December 17, 1780. This must be in error as she would have been age 5 at the birth of her first child.
