Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home www.lynch-cantillon.com Mary M. Connolly, a resident of Woburn for most of her life, passed away here on Friday, December 22nd, at the age of 96. She was the wife of the late John J. Connolly, who died in 1993. Born in Camden, New York, she was the daughter of the late Milford and Margaret (MacInness) Durkee. She moved with her family to Woburn at an early age and graduated from St. Charles School with the Class of 1928. For over fifty years she resided on Wolcott Road in Woburn, and later lived on Pleasant Street. For over forty-three years, Mary was employed as an executive secretary for Joseph T. Reyerson and Son Steel Company in Allston, beginning after she finished high school and retiring in 1972. She made many friends through her association with the company, and continued to attend annual employee reunions for many years. In her early years, Mrs. Connolly was active with the Passion Players Guild of Woburn and the Boston Catholic Theatre, both under the direction of Edward P. O'Donnell. Along with the other cast members, she toured the greater Boston area and into other parts of New England each Lenten season, with the production named "The Man of Sorrows." She also participated in other productions, including the "Song of Bernadette," "Chalk Dust," and "Trial of Mary Duggan." Having no children of their own, Mary and her husband John always had at least one dog, and sometimes two, to whom they were devoted. They considered their dogs, the last of which was named "Chester," to be their children. Mary always enjoyed taking care of her yard and was a faithful member of St. Charles Parish, with a special devotion to Padre Pio throughout her life. Along with her husband John, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera McElligott and Louise Curran. Surviving are a sister, Edna Gallagher of Lowell, and several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Wednesday, December 27th, at 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 11.
