Facts and Events
Martha is considered to have been First Lady under her father's administration from 1801 to 1809, as her mother had died in 1782. She was married at the time to Thomas Mann Randolph, and bore 12 children between 1791 and 1818. Her husband was elected governor of Virginia and served 1819 to 1822. In 1826, she inherited her father's estate at Monticello, but she sold it in the face of financial difficulties in 1831.
