Ellen Blanche King Thibadeau believes that she could have been Irish. Ellen B. King Thibadeau believes that this was her name. (verified with Lewis's death cert.) Ellen Blanche was told that she died when her son, Lewis, was 7. Burdette may have been her mother's maiden name. She said that her father told her that she had long red hair that went to the floor when she was seated. Blanche remembers that she was sent a photo of a pink tombstone that said only the name "Martha". It was a replacement stone set after her death. Death dates are estimated by the date that Lewis turned 7 (as the story goes) and the approx. date that Ernest remarried (from the 1900 US Census). It had to be somewhere inbetween. In 1880 she is single on the US Census and on the 1900 US Census Ernest is married to a new wife for 6 years. On Lewis B. King's DC it stated that she was born in Iowa but it also stated that his father, Ernest E. King was born there also but I show New York for his birth place from US Census records so I question this for Martha also. The 1800 US Census shows that she was born in Canada.

On the 1880 US Census she is 18 and is shown as a servant working for Isaac Willson King. Next door is a Hill family that includes 3 brothers of the head of household William. These people were born in Canada and their parents were born in Ireland just like Martha. I believe4 that these are her brothers and their parents may have died since a 5 yr old brother is living with his 30 yr old brother.

Not sure why Isaac is listed as J. W. Both Eugene and Naoma are listed as being 21 years old however, both the 1860 and 1870 census lists Eugene as being 3 years older. Therefore, this census (1880) is in error. Eugene should have been listed as 24 years old.
Liver complications was listed under disablities or illness for Amanda.

Maria and Mary Ellen must be from Mary E.'s first marriage.
There is a servant named Martha Hill living with this family. I believe that this woman became Ernest Eugene King's wife. I knew her first name was Martha and the description from Ellen Blanche King Thibadeau was that she had long red hair and was probably of Irish decent. Right next door is a Hill family that consists of a father, mother, their children and his brothers. One of the brothers is only 5. This leads me to believe that the parents of the brothers may have died. The place of birth all corresponds with Martha's. I believe that William, Hugh, Robert and O[s]mund are brothers of Martha Hill.

    4. Mom thinks that she died when Lewis was only 7.
    5. I. Wilson King, wife Mary E., 2 step daughters, 1 son, 2 daughters, and 2 people living with them: A teacher and a servant. The servant is Martha Hill.
