TODO: Description: King, Gladys and Lewis' Category: Divorce Degree Local: Oregon Archives Date: 29 Apr 2009 Status: Open Type: 0 Priority: 8 Repository:

He was born in Stanton then moved to Newman Grove and possibly Lincoln NB. He was previously married and had two daughters, about the age of Gladys. They both suffered from alcoholism. Lewis may have had a brother Will. He is listed on the 1910 US Census as a farmer. He worked as a Hod Carrier when the NW bank building was being built. When it was finished he was asked to work with the elevators and was soon promoted to a starter. He then became the Capt. of the elevators. He became the Superintendant of the entire building but to do that he was told by his boss that he would have to clean up his language which he did for the job and thereafter. Mr. Weatherly asked him to work for the Weatherly building after the crash in the stockmarket. He had not college degree but had great engineering skills.

Blanche Ellen King Thibadeau, said her father was born in Stanton, , Nebraska USA. He started drinking heavly when she was around 10 (1932). She said that he was on a baseball team in the south somewhere, perhaps Calif. or New Orleans. He may have been a Catholic, but he seemed to have problems with Catholics, Jews and black people. Not sure of the history of that. She thinks that his background is Scotch Irish and English. He used to go to an after hours place where black people frequented and was attracted to a black prostitute. Sounds contrary to his racisim.

When she was a teenager he was arrested for drunk driving and was in Rocky Butte Jail. He was instutionalized.

When she was in college she got him a job at the shipyard and a place to live. She locked him in his room at night to keep him from drinking. She took his check to the bank for the first couple of months but he soon demanded his money. When he got it the drinking started again.

When he died he was living on Grand ave. in Portland, OR. She bought him a 1/2 suit (only the front) to bury him in-the funeral expenses were about $250 and she had to use war bonds to pay for it.

Ellen Blanche thought he was Scotch, Irish and English.

(Medical):Determined by autopsy.

I am assuming that Gladys and Celia are Mary's children and that Lewis is from Earnst's first marriage to Martha. Earnst and Martha were probably married less than 14 years.
