    Martha Alison/Allison Johnston was the wife of John Johnston and the daughter of Hugh and Margaret Hope Alison/Allison. Martha was born ca. 1758 in Nottingham Co., Maryland and died on Knob Creek near the West Point area of Lawrence Co., Tennessee. She lived with her daughter, Peggy, at the time of her death and was about 96 or 97 years of age.

    Martha married John Johnston in 1774 in Baltimore Co., Maryland. John Johnston was born ca. 1753 in Scotland and died in 1818 from injuries sustained after being thrown from his horse. He is buried in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Maury Co., Tennessee.

    John Johnston was a Revolutionary soldier and both he and Martha were in the Battle of King's Mountain, which took place 7 Oct 1780, in North Carolina.

    John and Martha were the parents of eight known children:
    Mattie (Mary), Martha "Peggy", Andrew Jackson, Robert, Rosannah L., Stephen Alexander, Sarah Elizabeth "Sallie" and John Alison/Allison "Jack" Johnston. The oldest child, Mattie, was born in Maryland while the remaining seven were native South Carolinians.
