According to a family history written by his grandson and his wife (dated 1909), John Johnston went to Dickson Co. to conduct some business. While there, he was thrown from his horse, died and was buried on or near South Harper Creek. This marker at Pisgah Cemetary was erected through the efforts of Carrie H. Gresham, D.A.R.
This and other family histories may not be entirely correct. In Some Tennessee Heroes of the Revolution by Armstrong, it states that he and Martha moved to Davidson County, TN at the close of the Revolution and, indeed, some records are found there.
