Margaret Sweeney was born on 28th January 1890 at Penninghame in Wigtownshire, the parish which covered the town of Newton Stewart. She was the daughter of Janet Sweeney, formerly Milroy, and her husband Michael Sweeney, an agricultural labourer. Margaret appears (as Maggie) in the 1891 census living with her parents and siblings in Penninghame. Sadly she died later that year, aged nearly two.
