WOMAN STRUCK BY AUTOMOBILE TRUCK DEAD OF INJURIES

Mrs. Lucinda Oberlander Is Victim Of Accident At Crossing

DRIVER SAYS HE TOOK PRECAUTION

Coroner Declares Internal Hemorrhages Caused Death

Mrs. Lucinda Oberlander, 75, wife of Daniel Oberlander, 1207 Sixth street NW, died in the Mercy hospital at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from injuries received when she was struck by a Troy Laundry company truck a short time after noon. The accident occurred at the corner of McKinley avenue and Tuscarawas street W. Coroner T.C. McQuate announced the cause of death as internal hemorrhages.
Mrs. Oberlander was walking east in Tuscarawas street W at the time of the accident, and the driver of the truck which struck her declared that he had not seen her until she was struck. According to the driver of the truck, he was going south on McKinley avenue and, in accordance with the rules of the Troy company, on coming to the car tracks had stopped. He had started in low gear, and he looked down when he shifted to second speed, as he neared the south side of Tuscarawas street, he said.
Just then he heard a cry and looked up to see the woman run to the ground. He declared that no one was in sight when he started to shift his gears and that during the time he was crossing the street he had sounded his horn several times.
Mrs. Oberlander was taken immediately to the Mercy hospital where she died about two hours later. The first examination showed two fractures of the left arm as the only serious injuries received. After a postmortem examination, however, Coroner McQuate gave internal hemorrhages as the cause of death.
The body was removed Monday to the home and was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. T.S. Riblet, 1226 Fulton road NW, Tuesday morning.
The funeral services will be conducted from the Riblet home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon with Rev. H.N. Kerst in charge. Burial will be made in West Lawn cemetery.
