"Mother's parents [Bothilda and Lasse Uglum] left a very nice farm home in Sogndal, Sogn, Norway, to give their family of seven children a chance for a better life. Grandfather (Lasse Uglum) had asthma and couldn't work. In 1889, he emigrated to the United States to find a suitable location for his family. He chose Adams, Minnesota. He decided that this Scandinavian community was just the right location for his family."
"Grandmother, Bothilda Fimrite Uglum, crossed the ocean with her seven children the following year, 1890. . . . Within their first year in America, Grandfather died--leaving Grandma (pregnant with her 8th child) homeless, and unable to speak a word of English."
