Anna Marie Uglum Birth: May 1, 1888 Death: Apr. 6, 1951 Burial: Little Cedar Cemetery, Adams, Mower County, Minnesota, USA Miss Anna Uglum, 62, for many years a resident of Adams, Minn. died in Minneapolis on April 6, 1951 after an illness of long duration. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM April 10 in the Little Cedar Lutheran Church with interment at Little Cedar Cemetery in Adams. Anna Marie Uglum was born in Sogndahl, Norway, May 1, 1888 to Lasse and Bothilda Uglum. Two years later she came with her family to America to live at Adams, Minn. She was the seventh in a family of eight children. Her father, mother, and five brothers, Ole, Jim, Iver, Nels and Louie, preceded her in death. She is survived by her two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Olson of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Isabel Jones of Austin, Minn. and many nieces and nephews. She attended grade school in Clayton township and took a teachers training course at the Southern Minnesota Normal College at Austin. For ten years she taught in elementary schools in Mower County. She was graduated from the University of Minnesota and taught in several Minnesota high schools. Miss Uglum later received her Master of Arts degree from Columbia University at New York City. Upon completing her graduate work, she was employed on the staff of Columbia University for a period of thirteen years. During these years she was much interested in helping and inspiring her nieces to secure their education. In 1936, she made an extended trip to Europe where she visited several European countries including the place of her birth in Norway. Being keenly interested in contemporary affairs and in the welfare of humanity, she read widely and kept herself well informed concerning present day situations. She respected integrity and honesty in all human relationships. With her passing has gone a deeply religious spirit, a devoted friend and relative and an intelligent citizen of the world.
