Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 3, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :

Jewell, Joseph - born 10/13/1752 in Hunterdon County, New Jersey; moved in 1772 to New York where entered service 1776 when resided in Orange County; moved in 1784 to Augusta County, Virginia for several years, thence to Botetourt County, Virginia, thence in 1808 to Cumberland County, Kentucky, where granted Pension in 1832 when totally blind when daughter Catherine Lewis made affidavit there, her signature witnessed by Richard & Thomas Lewis (kinship not staated); soldier died 8/1/1840. F-S15480, R1415.

  • Vol. 2 - JUDGMENTS - APRIL, 1791 (I to Z). - Joseph Jewell vs. Samuel Harding--Debt. A. and B. Augusta, 15th April, 1790.
  • Page 28.--12th October, 1792. Joseph Jewell's bond as contractor to build a stone bridge over the creek on Beverley street in Staunton, near Sampson Mathews' lot, to be seven feet clear between the pillars, to extend down stream 23 feet.
