"2400=57. Capt. Jonathan3 Marsh b. [bapt.] Aug. 7, 1688, at Hartford, Ct., son of John2 and Sarah (Lyman) Marsh. His mother was dau. of Richard Lyman of Hartford and Northampton. His father was son of John1 Marsh and Anna Webster, dau. of Gov. Webster, all of Hartford, Ct., and Hadley, Mass.
He m. probably in 1714, No. 2400. … Elizabeth Wadsworth of Hartford, dau. of Capt. Joseph of Charter Oak fame, who left in his will £30, £10 each, to her three children. Her brother Jonathan Wadsworth, No. 84, had already m. in 1711 Hepzibah3 Marsh, sister of Capt. Jonathan and from this Hepzibah3 (Marsh) Wadsworth through Samuel4 b. 1716, Gurdon5 b. 1748 came Gurdon's grandson, Gurdon Wadsworth7 Russell, M. D., who wrote 'Up Neck.' Hartford, vividly describing a part of Hartford where many of Marsh and Wadsworth name have resided.
After the death of his first wife Capt. Jonathan Marsh, m. (2) probably in 1723, No. 2401. … Elizabeth Loomis of Windsor. Was she not Elizabeth3 Loomis, b. Sept. 26. 1704. No. 31. dau. of David and Lydia2 (Marsh) Loomis of Windsor? After her husband d. in 1783 she went to Hartford and lived 12 years with her dau. Hannah, Mrs. Thomas Wadsworth in the 'Up Neck,' Hartford and d. in '1795,' said to be æ. '98,' but if the dau. of Lydia (Marsh) Loomis, she was only 91.
Capt. Jonathan3 Marsh was to New Hartford largely what his brother Capt. John3 Marsh, 20 years older, was to Litchfield, an explorer, one of the first three selectmen, and the second on the list of earliest settlers. He explored in 1733 and removed with his family in 1736. 'He lived on a hill where he had a splendid view of hills and valleys.' His children were mainly born at Hartford. Born 1688 this Patriarch of the New Hartford line d. 1783, æ. 95."
