Edited and Published by Dwight Whitney Marsh, No. 5251 of Amherst, Mass. 1895 Page 190 Jonathan Marsh b. at Hartford, Ct., baptized May 1, 1715, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Wadsworth) Marsh. (John 2, John 1); removed when 21 with his father to New Hartford, Ct., was a farmer, wheelwright and carpenter and had the experience of a pioneer. He lived three fourths of a mile north of the church on the east side of the highway. He m. April 4, 1745, No. 2412. Theodocia Kellogg, dau. of Isaac, one of the early settlers. They lived long in patriarchal simplicity. Theodocia's chief employment for many years was weaving. This carpenter was not unlike Joseph of old. His grandson Rev. Frederick, who lived to be 92, describes a picture almost oriental, as he saw and remembered his grandfather with prayers about sunset, thanksgiving for all descendants, white locks and an attitude reverent, standing before God. The aged wife d. March 5, 1795 after 60 years of married life. Seven years later the husband followed, Jan. 12, 1802, ae. 87. |
