John Edward ("John Ed") Vest was born December 19, 1896 on Georgia Mountain in Marshall County, Alabama, the son of Robert Vest and Matilda Eubanks.2, 3

Some sources list his name as "John Edwin Vest" or "John R. Vest" 1,2, but his obituary clearly lists his middle name as Edward.

John Ed was notable for being the first commercial fisherman in Marshall County to use snag lines in the Tennessee River.3,4

In 1928, John Ed accidentally shot and killed his wife, Mary.3, 4

Vest eventually remarried, to one Annie Cook.

John Ed died in 1953 at a hospital in Gadsden, Alabama, after a three-week illness. He was 56.2, 3 He died on a Friday, and was buried the following Monday in Roden Cemetery in Marshall County, Alabama.
