• Vol. 1 - JUNE 27, 1769. - (305) Wm. McCutcheon, security for Margaret Clark, admx. of her husband, since intermarried with John Smith, claims counter security. [Note: John Smith's wife Margaret was the widow of William Clark [1738-1766] and the sister of William McCutcheon, as stated in this record].

• Page 438.--16th August, 1770. Margrett Smith, wife of John Smith, of Augusta County, to Samuel McCutchon, Sr., £12, and divers good reasons, horses, crops. Teste: James Crow and William Berry.

• Page 439.--17th August, 1770. John Smith to James and Samuel Clark, £3.10.10, cows. Teste: John Clark, William McCutchan, Jr. [Note: this record is from Margaret McCutcheon's 2nd husband, John Smith to her sons James and Samuel Clark, children by her first husband William Clark].

• Vol. 1 - MAY, 1771 (B). - Alexander Stewart vs. John Smith and Margaret, his wife, late Margaret Clark.--Debt. Writ, 15th January, 1770. Bond dated 20th January, 1769.

• Vol. 1 - AUGUST 19, 1777. - (216) Samuel McCutchon, as Captain; Robert Harris, as First Lieutenant; John Smith, as Ensign. [Note: the inclusion of Samuel McCutcheon in this record make it possible that this John Smith is the same as noted].
