Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA
Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:
- Page 225.--22d November, 1759. Samuel McCutchin (McCotshin) to William McCutchin, £50, 112 acres on head branches of Cathew's River, a line of Burden's great tract, near said McCutchen's house. (Note: Samuel was William McCutcheon's father).

From Chalkley's Augusta County Records:
- Vol. 1 - JUNE 27, 1769. - (305) Wm. McCutcheon, security for Margaret Clark, admx. of her husband, since intermarried with John Smith, claims counter security. [Note: Margaret Clark was the sister of William McCutcheon].
- Vol. 1 - MAY, 1779 (B). Thomas Crow vs. Wm. McCutchon.--Petition, Writ, 6th July, 1774. Defendant son of Samuel.
- Vol. 1 - AUGUST, 1785--MARCH, 1786. Commonwealth vs. Thomas Forst and Sophia, his wife.--For the murder of Wm. McCutchon. Inquisition held 27th December, 1785.
- Vol. 1 - JANUARY 2, 1786.- (273) Called Court on Thomas Torst and Sophia Torst, his wife, charged with murdering William McCutchen.--Discharged.
- Vol. 1 - MARCH 23, 1786.- (314) William McCutchen's death abates suit.
- Page 104.--19th September, 1787. David Fulton, grantee, to Sampson Mathews, grantor, of Richmond, attorney in fact for James McCutchen, eldest son and heir-at-law of William McCutchen, deceased, on head waters of Carthie's River, house of Samuel McCutchen. Sampson is mortgagee of William and debt was paid by David Fulton. (Note: the David Fulton listed in this record appears to be the brother-in-law of William McCutcheon. Samuel McCutcheon was William's father).
