The Henckel Genealogy pp 210-211 estimates Balthaser Nagli was born ca. 1729 and lists 5 children of Balthaser Nagli and Christina Rausch plus 2 that were unidentified, the oldest date of birth known being 1755. The 1/3 due John Shall is explained as "evidently indicates John Shall married the widow." It has been claimed variously that Balthaser's sister was the wife Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and/or that his wife Christina was Benjamin's brother.
"The Shaul Family History 1773-1993 by Virginia Gorton Bonne and Herbert Milford Shaul (1992), page 11 [this book follows only the family of Peter Shaul), details the Widow's Bill of John Shall dated 2 Oct 1810 and lists some of the items purchased by "the widow" Anna Shall, as recorded Pendleton Co Will Book 3:117-121. Toothman's published abstracts do not give the widow's name although the appraisal was signed by Anna Shall, Pendleton Co Will Book 2:196-199. The last appearance noted of the widow besides the estate papers was the 1810 census where she appears as Anny Shall as head of household with 10 people living with her. The Shall Family History concludes that John was married twice although neither marriage has been found, and also that the widow's bill shows the widow had full rights to his property and not the usual 1/3. Also of interest, the "Dutch Bible" was purchased by Adam Mouse, not the widow.
