Cause of Death: Killed by Indians from ambush near Exeter The first of the Robinson line in America....

He emigrated to America from Meppershall County, Bedford England around 1635. He was first heard from at the Parker River Settlement near Newbury, Massachusetts, in 1640. Like his father, he was a blacksmith.

.... This is evidenced by his father's will and by the letter of attorney which he gave for the collection of the legacy bequeathed to him.

This will of the elder John Robinson gives to his oldest son, Edward, his shops, dwelling, with all the tools and furniture to have for his use immediately after his decease. To his other son, John, he gives ten pounds, to be paid when he shall come to the age of 21 years.

To Mary, the wife of Edward Manning he gives five shillings; to each of the other daughters , Judith, Anne, Alice, Joane, twenty pounds each, to be paid when they shall come to the age of 21 years.

To Katherine, his beloved wife, all that was not otherwise disposed of. He made her the Executrix, and he made Henry Eaden, his brother-in-law of Pulloxhill in Bedford, Yoeman, Overseer.

Witness: George Noble, Matt Hare.... Probated November 20, 1627

Extract from ASPINWAL NOTARIAL RECORDS, printed in the Boston Commissioners Reports, Volume 3 2, page 328....

"* 17th (8) 1650. John Robinson of Haverhill in N.E. Granted a tre Attur(?) to Robert Pike, Salisbury in N.E. to receive a certaine legacie given him by John Robinson of Mapurshall in Countie of Bedford Blacksmith, his father and of the receipt to give acquittance with power of substitute and ratifying."

In 1640, John Robinson from Newbury, Massachusetts, in company with eleven others, made the first settlement in Pentucket, now Haverhill, Massachusetts. (History of Haverhill, by George Wingate Chase, Page 38)....

The old settlement at Pentucket was some distance out from Haverhill, and the vestige of the old cellars can still be located.

On December 22, 1644, he bought a house and lot of Joseph Merry (also spelled Merrie), which he conveyed to Daniel Hendrick of Newbury in 1645, both conveyances acknowledged in the court at Salisbury "12:2 Mo. 1654....

The first recorded birth in town was that of John Robinson, who lived but three weeks; the second birth was also a son of John Robinson in 1642, who lived but one week. (History of Haverhill, Massachusetts, page 45....

John Robinson married Elizabeth Trickley of Newbury Massachusetts, about 1640, and had six children, all born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. While no certain information has yet been found , it is probable that her maiden name was Trickley, who lived in the home of Mr. Alexander Shapleigh, a merchant and ship owner of Kingsweare in Devon, England and an agent of Sir Ferdinando Gorges.

NOTE: Subsequent to Richardson's 1981 article in The American Genealogist on John Robinson, further research has determined that she was Elizabeth Pemberton, not Elizabeth Trickley.[2]

Elizabeth Trickley Married John Robinson at her age of seventeen.

On October 21, 1675 while returning home from Hampton to Exeter, John Robinson was killed by Indians, who shot from ambush. His son, David who accompanied him, escaped by hiding in a swamp. The names of the three indians who waylaid and killed John Robinson were John Sampson , Cormwell and John Lunde. (History of Town of Exeter, N.H.).

Administration of the estate of John Robinson was made May 30, 1676; on April 6,1677, and account was rendered by his widow, Elizabeth, and his son David. On April 10, 1677 and order of the court directed David Robinson, joint administrator with his mother of the estate of John Robinson of Exeter, to divide the estate after her death among the surviving children.(Norfolk Court Records)

When Elizabeth Robinson, thewidow, died has not been ascertained.
