David was married to Sarah Taylor of Exeter, NH. David was three years old when his father moved the family to Exeter. In 1652, he was twenty-six years old at the time of his fathers death on October 21, 1675, from a gunshot by Indians in ambush. David escaped by hiding in the swamp until his pursuers gave up the search; then he went to Hampton, reaching there early in the morning and giving the alarm. A company of soldiers went out after the body, which they conveyed to the dead man's house in Exeter.

David was appointed by the Norfolk County Court as joint administrator with his mother, to administer his fathers estate. The estate was heavily encumbered with a mortgage to Theodore Atkinson, Sr., of Boston, to secure the fulfillment of a contract for the delivery of pipe staves, entered into by his father on November 3, 1674. This contract David completed, thereby releasing the estate of all emcumbrances (see page 10, order of the court, April 10, 1677). The completion of this contract may have been one of the reasons for David's late marriage in 1680 at the age of thirty-one.

On January 31, 1681, David was granted 100 acres of land by the town of Exeter. He served on garrison duty in 1696. Only one of the children of David and Sarah whose name we know as Thomas, who was one of the scouting party in Capt. Gilmans's company.
