  • "John Medley granted 50 acres of land in Bucks County, Pa., Februray 28, 1744; Ivan Medley, probably a member of this family, settled on New River prior to 1754, and was killed by the Indians during the French and Indain war, concerning which there is an account in the Augusta County, Va., records."


Will Abstract

  • The will of John Medley was entered for probate in Culpeper County on October 20, 1763. He named his wife and children. His wife Elizabeth named in the will, was one of four co-executors with Jacob Ward, Charles Brooking, and son John Medley. Daughters Elizabeth, younger daughters Elinor, Mary, and Martha are also named. The appraisal of the will mentions Capt. Thomas Jones, promissory note to John Medley.   • M-58: Ambrose Barnett of Orange County is in possession of 100 acres in Culpeper County, part of tract granted his father John Barnett dec'd & William Philips for 1,100 acres 20 May 1735. Said 100 acres was conveyed to John Boston and reconveyed to [John] Barnett dec'd who by will devised same to his son Ambrose Barnett (Records of Orange Court).. Resurveyed by Mr. Philip Clayton shows 1,546 acres surplus in bounds. Grant for 1,646 acres to Ambrose Barnett adj.
