    John Lowe was the eldest son of John Lowe of Denby (1616-1659) and his wife Catherine, daughter of Sir Arthur Pilkington, Baronet, of Stanley, Yorkshire. He had three younger brothers and three younger sisters. He was a magistrate for the county of Derby. John Lowe was the first member of the family known to have mined the coal seams under the family's property in Denby. ...
