Facts and Events
There are two John A. Goddards in the 1910 census. One is aged 69 and is married to Rhoda (age 58). This is John Andrew Goddard who was married first to Mary "Ann" Bennett. In 1910, John and Rhoda have 2 teenage sons, Joseph E. (16) and Noah C. (13). This also shows that John A. Goddard's father was born in Ohio. I found this couple in the Fayette County Register of Marriages in the Courthouse (in summer 2004). They are both listed as born in Greenbrier Va., but residing and married in Fayette County, Wv in 1886. The second John A. Goddard shown in the 1910 Census, whose estimated birth year is 1869, is my John Adam Goddard. [However, there is not a baby John (i.e. John Adam) in the 1870 Census in the household of John Jr. (i.e. John Andrew) and Ann (i.e. Mary Ann Bennett Goddard.)] This John A. Goddard in 1910, Fayette County, ED #25, Quinnimont, is a 41 year old farmer, married to Kate (age 40) for 12 years. Their children are Mamie, Moreen (likely this is Marine), John R., Jesse, William D., Ila, Thelma, and William R. On the next page (page 21 of 32) Eli Mullens is alive, aged 90 years, and lives in the household of Georgianna McClanahan. Note: The 1880 Census, Sewell Mountain, Fayette County, District 29, p. 39 of 60 pages, lists John A. Goddard, as age 8 making his estimated birth year 1872. Note: On the 1920 Census, Katie Goddard, Head, widow, age 40 has in her house a Marion Carter, age 52, listed as her brother. Could he be the same person as Marion Remy as shown on the 1880 Census living in John and Ann Goddard's house? Could Marion's mother Francis have been Kate Carter's sister or sister-in-law whose son went by Carter and not by Remy? References
