Not to be confused with John Davis of Madison County, Kentucky who married Rachel West. Some researchers have confused the two that both married women named Rachel, but records in Madison and Garrard County, Kentucky clearly differentiate them from each other.

Will of John DAVIS, dated 3 Jun 1817, appraised 22 Aug 1817.
John DAVIS of Garrard Co., KY.
To my eldest son Samuel DAVIS-the place I live that I purchased of Elijah KERTLY up to the branch emptying into the creek, up said branch to the back line.
To son William DAVIS--Land from said branch and upward together with that land I bought of Benjamin WHEELER.
To son James DAVIS-the place below me over the creek lying in Madison Co. that I bought of Green CLAY together with 50 acres bought of CRAGG. Also my rifle gun.
And whereas I have in time past given my son Samuel DAVIS a mare and colt, also my daughter Mary WHEELER a mare, I hereby disallow them from being accountable for the said hereafter.
My sons Samuel, William & James DAVIS to maintain my wife Rachel DAVIS during her wife (life?) aswidow. She can rent out some land.
I bequeath her (wife) bed & household furniture--at her death, the same to be equally divided amongst my children.
Also should I decease before my three youngest children, William, James, and Eleanor have sufficient education-$70 to be appropriated by executor for their education.
Whereas my daughter Mary WHEELER has been (or seen) a deal of trouble and care with a Negro women of mine named Hannah who is pregnant; therefore for her trouble and care I will and bequeath the child she is with to my daughter. And should said child die immediately or not be born, I allow her a reasonable charge out ofmy estate to be paid by executors.
To daughter Eleanor a mare and two cows as good as I gave to my sons at her marriage or on her being of Lawful age.
Whereas I have given my two daughters Elizabeth HURT and Anne TOTTON each one mare and two cows and calves a piece...
And whereas among the misfortunes attendant mankind my son Thomas DAVIS is not as yet as sensible a person of his age usually are therefore for his better support $120 over and above his regular share...
All my slaves to be valued and divided equally amongst my 8 children as before named.Two Negroes apiece hopefully--value equal.
My executors to maintain son Thomas, or cause it to be done and care for his Legacy during his or their life, And Lastly, I make and ordain my son Samuel DAVIS & my brother Samuel DAVIS my executors.
