From "Carlile And Related Families, Augusta, Bath and Highland Counties Virginia 1745 to 1875" by Carol Watson and Frances Buchanan Arlington, 1994. "John signed a receipt dated 24 Feb 1804 - "Rec'd of Robert Carlyle fifty dollars in part of John Carlyle legacy left to him by John Carlile deceased. Witnesses: George Carlyle and William Corbin (Clayton v. Carlile)" - John Carlile was living in Warren Co. KY 26 Nov 1806 when he signed a power-of-attorney in Barren Co. KY to James Carlile of Green Co. KY. The purpose of the attorney was to collect money due John from the 1796 estate of John Carlile of Augusta Co. Va. John Carlisle was listed in Washington Co. KY tax records in 1792 with 1 black; 2 horses, and 8 cattle. He also paid taxes there in the years 1793-1795 (Early KY Tax Records, pg. 250). John was a witness in Green Co. KY to a deed dated Feb. 22, 1802, Joseph Richerson to Joseph Ray of Wash. Co. KY (Wright)."
