[Note: These dates may be approximate dates.]

John Asbury appears in the personal tax lists of Washington County, Viginia from 1782 to 1787, then in Russel Count (which was formed from Washington County) from 1788 through 1805, always with only 1 tithable (himself). Land was surveyed for him in Washington County on 2 November 1781, which was patented 17 November 1793; it lay apparently partly in Russel County and partly in Tazewell County, Virginia. John Asbury and his second wife Keziah deeded it away in three successive deeds, one to Robert Belsher on 15 August 1796 in Russel County; one to William Asbury (son of George) on 2 March 1801 and one to Christian Trout on 15 November 1805, both in Tazewell County. John Asbury last appears in the personal tax lists of Russel County in late 1805 and he probably died there in late 1805 or early 1806.[1]
