Based on various bits including a 1900 census record for daughter Minnie that has both John and Marie living with her. See image for Minnie.

I know that this son Friedrich who also came to Akron (in 1882) was said to be from Wallmow, Uckermark. This is exactly where the Australian Ruthenbergs came from. There are also lots of Arndts nearby. The records do not appear to be available on line. I have been advised that the Wallmow parish registers probably have to be tracked down in Berlin.
