"JAKOB" and his wife, and his 22 year old son, and at least 1 daughter migrated to America in 1737. He was not the only one of his extended family to do so, and he was not the first one of them. A descendant, Jack Akerboom, states in his book on the descendants of Hans Lauer (born circa 1601), that we do not know why JAKOB left Hirstein, and traveled to America. Nor how the trip was financed, nor how they traveled to Rotterdam, to catch a ship. This migration was beyond the time of the great migration of Palatines to Pennsylvania ("Penn's woods") of circa 1709, where they became known as the "PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH" (which of course they were not).
