Named his sons: John Quarles and Benjamin Quarles; his daughters: Anne, wife of John Quarles; Molly Hillyard; Lucy Butler; Judith Moyler; and his grandsons: John Quarles, Jun.; Moses Quarles; James Gresham Quarles; Isaac Quarles; John Russell; James Q. Russell, also granddaughters: Sarah, wife of Nathaniel Fox; Elizabeth Russell; Molly Hillyard; Elizabeth Butler; Molly Moyler; Elizabeth Quarles; Eliza Quarles; Lucy Moyler.
Proved at King William, Virginia Court 16th August 1771.

Col. James Quarles devised to his son, John Quarles his home plantation and it appears that John Quarles entered into the ownership at once.
This is to inform whom it may concern: that all the Estate of Col. James Quarles dec'd, Late of King William in the hands of Col. John Quarles, and his other legatees, are held by them under the express conditions of its being subject at all times liable for his the said James Quarles' engagements of which there are many yet unsettled, therefore any sale, mortgage or conveyance of any kind made or done & c. will be invalid until all engagements are satisfied.
