James William Meakins was born on 20th April 1875 and baptised the following month at St Peter’s Church in the Walworth area of Newington, in the southern suburbs of London. He was the son of a hawker called Ann Meakins, formerly Walter, and her husband John Meakins, a costermonger and general dealer.

Sadly, James died when he was about one year old in 1876.
