John Meakins was born on 20th August 1860 at 4 Fox’s Buildings in Southwark, in the southern suburbs of London. He was the son of Ann Meakins, formerly Walter, a hawker, and her husband John Meakins, a costermonger. John had a twin brother called Henry.

Sadly, young John died when he was only two years old, on 5th January 1863 at 4 Fox’s Court in Southwark.
